Faith Tech Bible School – Liberia 2001

Liberia second year students

Wendy and I made our first mission trip together in the spring of 2001 to teach the Counseling Series in Liberia.  We were excited by the prospect of teaching as a husband and wife team, and we felt our personal life experiences would be particularly beneficial for teaching on Biblical family relationships.

We traveled on Sabena airlines with a short layover in Belgium.  In Liberia, we stayed at the Boulevard Hotel.  Our hotel room provided us with most of the comforts of home: electricity, air conditioning, water, and even a bath.

It was a pleasure to see the Liberian students once again, and they were even more excited to meet my wife, Wendy.

The women students were particularly encouraged to hear Wendy’s personal testimony and to observe her teaching with knowledge and authority from the Word.

Our classroom

The Counseling Series included teachings on family relationships, finances, occult, deliverance, prayer, praise, and fasting.  Many of the students told us of ancient tribal religious traditions and superstitions which still exist within their families.

One of our students made a great impression on us.  He was an elderly gentleman in need of shoes and glasses.  He gave testimony that by faith and prayer, these items were provided supernaturally by God during the course of the Bible school.

He was the only Christian in his family and was determined to go back to his village to witness to his Muslim relations.  We were inspired by his great faith!

Civil war damage

The church in Liberia must trust God for their daily existence.  They face political instability, ancient superstitions, food and water shortages, and other challenges every day.  Jesus Christ is the answer to these problems.  It was a great honor to be used by God to help strengthen the faith of our dear brothers and sisters in Liberia.  Our hope is that these students will become teachers themselves and the Bible school will propagate throughout the country.
